Where the name Rebecca comes from
In the Old Testament, Rebecca is the wife of Isaac and mother of Jacob and Esau. Her name probably comes from a Hebrew word meaning to tie or join. Puritans used it from the 17th century, and Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca made it famous in the 20th century.
