Where the name Samantha comes from
Samantha seems to have been created in 18th-century America, perhaps by joining Samuel with the ending -antha, which may come from the Greek word for a flower. It became popular in the 1960s through the TV series Bewitched, about a friendly witch named Samantha. It was very common in the 1980s and 1990s.
